On Friday, the North Strand crew ventured to Co.Mayo for some team festivities and it was a case of being in the right place at the right time.
While ordering a drink in a Westport bar, crew witnessed a man go in to cardiac arrest and work-mode kicked in.
In a post published on the Dublin Fire Brigade’s official Facebook page, the crew highlighted the importance of Basic Life Support and early defibrillation.
One of the crew on scene was newly retired District Officer Peter Keating.
“Ironically, Peter retired only 2 days ago. You can take the man out of the DFB, but you can’t take the DFB out of the man”.
Chatting to Today FM’s The Anton Savage Show this morning, Peter took his new hero status all in his stride. Saving a life at his staff do is “just part of the job”, he said.
