A woman who vanished almost a month ago has been found alive after surviving on a diet of just berries and wild mushrooms.
25-year-old Lisa Theris disappeared near Midland, Alabama in mid-July.
She was found over the weekend by a passer-by who spotted her on the side of the road.
Theris had lost 50 pounds of her body weight and her skin was covered in scratches. She had been roaming the forest for 28 days without shoes or shelter.
Following reports that Theris had been found alive, her brother Will took to Facebook to share a photo of his sister.
He captioned the picture: “28 days stranded out in the wilderness and Lisa is still standing, strongest person I know.”
Will also released a statement saying that hearing his sister was alive was one of the most “surreal” moments of his life.
“Yesterday was the happiest, most surreal of days when we got the call that she had been found. She has some complications and has a lot of healing to get through but she is standing strong and full of jokes as ever.
The next few weeks will be rough but she is handling it all like a trooper and our family will continue to do all we can to help.
We are very thankful for everyone’s thoughts and prayers and look forward to our baby fully recovering.”
Theris had no phone or purse when she was found.
She was taken to the emergency room in Bullock County for a checkup. Theris’s sister Elizabeth told MSNW that she was extremely emaciated, but “lucky to be alive.”
Police have said the radiology student was with two men who were burglarising a hunting camp before she disappeared. She has said she did not want to be a part of the robbery.
The men have since been apprehended.
