Back to the electric blanket.
The unpredictable nature of our Irish climate never ceases to amaze us and this week’s weather is proof of how it can change so fast.
Although it’s actually surprisingly warm today, 13 degrees, in fact, the mild temperatures will soon drop considerably.
A few bright, dry spells today, but generally cloudy & misty, with some further rain at times. The rain will be persistent & sometimes heavy over Muns & parts of Lein, but lighter & more scattered elsewhere. Temps well above normal, 13 to 15 °C in mod. to fresh S to SW winds.

Tomorrow will be a very wet day and when that rain clears late tomorrow evening, you’ll need your fluffy pjs, hot water bottle and electric blanket.
According to Met Éireann:
“Wednesday night will turn cold everywhere as temperatures fall to near freezing in the early part of the night, lowest overnight temperatures zero to plus 3 degrees, coldest in the north”.
This change is owing to a “polar low”, an area of low pressure which will track “near the north of the country”.
The national forecaster says the cold snap will continue into Thursday too, accompanied by strong westerly winds and showers. Wintry showers will continue and will fall as snow in hilly, mountainous areas.
Thursday night will see more of the same, turning even colder again.
“Temperatures will range between minus 2 and plus 3 degrees with ice forming on untreated surfaces”.
At the moment, the outlook for the rest of the week is “continued cold weather with showers”.
