The British detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have asked authorities in Portugal to close in on three suspects.

According to reports this morning, the three individuals are thought to be former employees of the Ocean Club complex in Praia da Luz where the McCanns were staying when the toddler went missing in May 2007.

The trio are also thought to be behind a string of burglaries in that area and reportedly made numerous telephone calls to each other around the time the then three-year-old disappeared.

Scotland Yard has put in a request for Portuguese authorities to search their homes and bank accounts but, according to Sky News, it is not yet known whether they will follow through on this.
