Gilbert Collins, 15, and Avuzwa Idras, 17, were travelling on an e-scooter on the R680 Cork Road in Waterford City. They were reportedly travelling to or from a 24 hour gym.
Gilbert Collins was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2am, shortly after the crash.
Avuzwa Idras was taken to Waterford University Hospital with serious injuries. However, he sadly passed away yesterday afternoon.
Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Jason Murphy, paid tribute the two boys, saying it was "an awful tragedy."
Before the death of Avuzwa was announced, he said: "As Mayor of Waterford City and County and behalf of all the people in Waterford all our thoughts and prayers are with the young man and his family and friends and his school.
"I hope that the bus driver gets all the support that they need over the next few days and weeks ahead because it's going to be very difficult for them as well."
Counselling services are available at St Paul's Community College for fellow students.
Sinn Féin Cllr John Hearne said: “It’s an absolute tragedy, a young life loss is a terrible thing."
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any possible information about the collision, including dash-cam footage:
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
E-scooter were only recently made legal on Irish roads at the end of May. However, you do not need a licence or insurance to operate one. You also must be over the age of 16.
