The original manuscript for Don McLean’s famous song American Pie is set to go up for auction this week, which includes 18 pages of lyrics and notes.

The lot is expected to be sold for over €1 million in New York as fans are being given the chance to take home a piece of music history.

Along with notes from McLean and typed drafts whoever gets their hands on the manuscript will also have the notes that show an alternative ending to the song.

Currently, the end of the song states: “And the three men I admire most, the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost, they caught the last train for the coast, The day the music died.”

The manuscript reveals another ending to the song.

However another verse uncovered in the manuscript sees him falling to his knees and praying: “And I promised to give all I have to give, if only he would make the music live again.”

According to reports, the song then concludes by saying his prayers were answered ‘and the music lived again’ – changing music history forever!
