Guess that’s that, so.
It sparked a debate that we haven’t seen the likes of since The Dress – but now we finally know what the man behind the infamous Yanny/Laurel clip was really saying.
The divisive audio clip left some people convinced that they heard the word Yanny, while others were so sure that it was actually saying Laurel.
What do you hear?! Yanny or Laurel pic.twitter.com/jvHhCbMc8I

Broadway performer Jay Aubrey Jones said that the clip was from when he was recruited to record a catalogue of words for Vocabulary.com in 2007.
As for what he’s saying?
If you were hearing Laurel, we’ve got some good news: it looks like you were correct.
The 64-year-old told NBC:
“I wound up recording about 36,000 words and phrases, the whole process took about two or three months.
“Oddly enough I had not regonized my own voice when I heard it on television.
“I’m completely and utterly floored by this, I’m really amused…every so often I’m laughing.”
While it’s technically a victory for those who were hearing Laurel, it’s worth bearing in mind that the audio has been digitally manipulated – so there’s technically no “right” answer.
Many social media users have pointed out that changing the pitch or even adjusting the bass on the clip could lead to hearing two different sounds.
you can hear both when you adjust the bass levels: pic.twitter.com/22boppUJS1

Ok, so if you pitch-shift it you can hear different things:
down 30%: https://t.co/F5WCUZQJlq

up 20%: https://t.co/zAc7HomuCS

okay since everyone’s so confused—
the words are in two different pitches.
“yanny/yammy” is very high pitched, “laurel” is very bassy and deep. both of the words are playing at the same time faded into eachother. try playing with ur volume and using a speaker for bass! pic.twitter.com/3K2VeMYGnd— terintino (@terinjoseph) May 16, 2018
