Dublin Creative Centre BLOCK T Are Back – And They Need Your Help

Ellen Tannam

BLOCK T was a creative space set up from the ashes of the recession in Smithfield Square in 2010.

What followed was six years of learning, creativity, exhibitions and events that enriched the city’s cultural landscape immeasurably.

However, rapidly rising rents caused the collective to vacate their North Inner City premises, much to the upset of many advocates for and fans of the arts in Dublin.

This week though comes a brilliant announcement that the people behind this great facility have found a new premises in Basin View, Dublin 8.

They are currently running a crowdfunding campaign to raise much-needed cash to provide a springboard to support some of the costs involved in setting up the new facility for the public.

Their GoFundMe page reads: “BLOCK T quickly became a vibrant and accessible hub for the local and creative community, and provided a much-needed space where anyone could walk in, visit an exhibition, listen to up and coming Irish musicians and artists, network and share with like-minded people, sign up to a course, seek inspiration, or simply grab a coffee and work on their latest project. ”

If you have a spare fiver and think that the arts have a vital place in Irish culture, donate here.
