Because who among us doesn’t need some Nasty Nick in their lives?
The year 2000 was a simpler time.
We had just survived Y2K. The Kardashians weren’t famous yet. Donald Trump was still running for president but he didn’t get anywhere so it was fine.
Reality TV was barely a thing at the turn of the millennium, which is why when a show called Big Brother landed onto our television screens, we were enthralled. We were amazed. We were – in my case – far too young to be watching but we did it anyway.
The series was the first of its kind, an experiment intent of finding out what would happen if you isolated 12 normal people from the outside world for an extended period of time.
Now we know all too well the misery and woe off being cut off from society, but in the year 2000 we didn’t. This was all new. And it was deeply, deeply entertaining.
As the show gained popularity, it became less about watching normal people and more about celeb-wannabes desperately grasping for their 15 minutes of fame.
Big Brother, like most reality TV shows, descended into something that it once was not, leaving the majority of us nostalgic for the early episodes and desperate for a return to basics.
And thankfully, Channel 4 are set to give us just that as they air a series of classic Big Brother episodes on E4 to mark the show’s 20th anniversary.
We’re talking Nasty Nick’s ejection, we’re talking Nadia’s incredible win, we’re talking Jade Goody, Brian Dowling, and Kate Lawler – all of it hosted by Davina McCall and Rylan Clark.
“I love the show with all of my heart and can’t wait to share it with a whole new audience,” said Davina. “And of course, all you diehard fans out there… It’s good to be back. Big Brother’s missed you.”
Rylan added: “Over the years Big Brother has brought ground breaking television moments for many reasons, but now so more than ever whilst we’re all playing the role of housemates, let’s go back and rewind the clock to some of our favourite ever episodes.”
Let’s have it.
E4 will be airing classic Big Brother episodes to mark the show’s 20th anniversary this summer.
