People have said they have been left “too scared to sleep” after watching Netflix’s The Platform.
The Spanish thriller was released on the streaming service late last month, and is described as “a twisted social allegory about mankind at its darkest and hungriest”.
It takes place in a future dystopia, where prisoners are housed in vertically stacked cells – and watch hungrily as food descends from above.
The platform moves between the floors, feeding the upper tiers, but leaving those below ravenous and radicalised.
From the trailer, it looks like it doesn’t take too long for things to escalate – with the prisoners going to great lengths to have their fill of food, or to try and escape the prison.
Following the film’s release, many Netflix users have taken to social media to share their thoughts – with some claiming it is “Blair Witch level scary.”

The Platform on Netflix was Blair Witch level scary. If you regularly sleep or eat, prepare to be terrified. All the lights are on now in my appartement. Really doesn’t help that my studio apartment is about the size of the jail cells in the movie.

I watched THE PLATFORM on Netflix last night and now I can't sleep.
It metaphorically explains the situation we are in now and our need to work together. It explores why that does not stand a chance of working.
Thought provoking.
The provoked thought?
We are doomed.
