On July 20th Malone was rushed to hospital after nearly drowning while swimming at South Boston Beach.
The Boston Globe reported that an off-duty firefighter was alerted when he saw Malone swim out too far.
He, with the help of some teenagers on a power boat, managed to get the actor out of the water.
Malone was then taken to Boston Medical Center where he remained in a critical condition before dying of his injuries on Wednesday.
Malone, who appeared in Gone Baby Gone and The Fighter, was surrounded by his loved ones including his son and parents.Celebrity
