Put Your Hands Up if You Want Up Hair

For those days when you don't want your hair down around you or fancy a change. Here are some classic and easy-to-do up hairstyles.

Rebecca McKnight

It can be annoying having to style your hair every morning with the hair straighteners or curlers so that it sits right.

So why not ditch those and try one of our effective and easy-to-do up hairstyles for a change?

1. The Ponytail – There is so much you can do with this classical up hairstyle. You can opt for a loose ponytail which when finished with a dressy hair accessory can ooze sleekness. Alternatively you can go for a playful sporty side ponytail or make like J-Lo with an ultrahigh ponytail that accentuates your gorgeous face.

2. The Chignon – With so many different versions to choose from you are guaranteed to find a chignon to suit you. From classic to messy to side chignons, this popular do is a real winner. To get a simple side one, split your hair into two sections on the side you wish to have the chignon. Tie them in a loose knot. Then take the right strand over to the left and fix with a clip. Do the same for the other side. Spray with hairspray and you’re good to go.

3. The Poof – Simple but effective, the poof hairstyle will inject your mane with volume and character. All you need to do is grab a section of hair from the front of your hairline to the crown of your head or wherever you want to create the poof. Secure this section with a small rubber band. Then push this section of hair towards the front of your head to create the poof. Secure in place with clips and hairspray away.

4. The Bun – The bun really has really taken off as a runway look in recent years and the best thing about it is that it will never get old. As if that’s not reason enough it takes all of a minute to perfect. Gather your hair into a ponytail using your fingers. With one hand hold the base of the ponytail. With your other hand twist the ponytail to the very end. Wrap it around the base and fix in place with pins.

5. The Knot – Very similar to the bun style, the knot is one style that is both effortless and chic. The only difference is that you don’t twist your hair as tightly or at all. Just wrap your ponytail around its base without twisting to get a less finished but equally fashionable look. Feel free to let loose strands fall down as well. 6. The Roll – Like all these styles, the roll is so easy to do. Divide your tangle-free hair into two sections. Tie one into a pigtail. Taking the free side of hair, take a small section from your forehead and twist it back. Hold it out away from your head and grab another section of hair. Work this into the twisted section creating a few more twists. Continue doing this until all the hair on this side has been gathered into the twist. Ask for someone to hold this side or fix it with a clip while you do the same on the other side. When all the hair is twisted, gather the two twists and fix into a ponytail at the back of your head.

7. The Braid – Perfect for a day in the office or a night out on the town, the braid is such a diverse style. Better still it doesn’t matter if every single hair isn’t in place. In fact, the messier it is the better it looks, within reason of course. It also happens to be the easiest style to imitate. You can get it in three easy steps. Wash your hair and add some volume-enhancing cream to it. Gather all your hair, or as much of it as you want, on one side. Braid or plait it and secure with a band.

So the next time you don’t have time to fix your hair in the morning or for a night out, try one of these hot and hassle-free dos. You might need to do a few practice runs as you don’t want to end up with Russell Brand’s old hairstyle!
