This woman’s rare medical condition means she can’t hear men when they talk

A woman in China has been diagnosed with a kind of temporary hearing loss that means she can’t hear mens voices.

According to the Daily Mail, the woman is only being identified as Ms. Chen.

She is said to have been suffering from nausea and ringing in her ears the evening before.

She thought that a good night’s sleep would be the solution – however, when she woke up, she couldn’t hear her boyfriend.

Ms Chen went straight to the hospital, where she was seen by a ear, nose, and throat specialist.

Doctors began to try to figure out the reason behind her bizarre symptoms – which, according to reports, were unlike more common forms of hearing loss.

Ms Chen was diagnosed with reverse-slope hearing loss (or low-frequency hearing loss), a condition which is said to affect almost one in 13,000 people with hearing problems.

Dr Lin Xiaoqing, who treated Ms Chen, said:

“She was able to hear me when I spoke to her, but when a young male patient walked in, she couldn’t hear him at all.”

She added that she believes the recent stress and exhaustion Ms Chen had been under could have contributed to the condition.

The ear, nose and throat specialist said that she expected Ms Chen to make a full recovery.
