A woman in New Hampshire who dug up her father’s grave has told police that she thinks her father “would be okay with it” and that she did so “with respect”.

Melanie Nash (52) was accused of digging up her father’s grave in May of this year. Police found the vault belonging to Eddie Nash had been cracked open and that the casket was also open.

Mr. Nash died of a heart attack in 2004 and his daughter claimed she had dug up his grave to prove that her sister Susie had hidden their father’s “real will.”

Melanie was outraged when she learned that Susie claimed there was only one will which left nothing to 52-year-old Melanie.

“All this was done for the right reasons,” Melanie told the police. “I know my father would be okay with it…What we all did was to dig up my father’s coffin, Eddie Nash, looking for documents. We did it with respect.”

Melanie made these statements after she had been arrested for the crime but her lawyer, William Albrecht, is asking that the statements be excluded from the case as she had not been read her Miranda rights at the time.

It is reported that Melanie found nothing in the grave except for a packet of cigarettes.

Four others are accused of assisting Nash with the crime.
