Investigation launched after body is discovered on grounds of University Hospital Limerick

A major investigation is underway following the discovery of a body at University Hospital Limerick.

A member of the hospital staff found the body of a man on the grounds of the hospital on Thursday, September 19th.

According to reports, the deceased was a male aged in his 40s.

Investigators believe the body may have been on the grounds of the hospital for a month.

The deceased was discovered away from the main hospital and found near the helipad on the hospital grounds.

Gardaí have launched an investigation following the harrowing discovery on Thursday.

They have reportedly sealed off sections of the hospital grounds as they investigate the man’s death.

The body of the deceased has also been removed from the scene.

The scene has been sealed off following the launch of the Garda investigation.

Gardaí also confirmed that a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The Coroner has also been notified, Gardaí confirmed.

University Hospital Limerick confirmed a Garda investigation is ongoing, but made no further comment.

Gardaí also told The Irish Sun:

“Gardai are investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of the body of an adult male on the grounds of a premises on St Nessans Road, Limerick on Thursday, September 2024.

“The body has since been removed from the scene and a post-mortem examination will take place at a later date, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.

“The Coroner has been notified. Investigations are ongoing.”
