Dozens of children will reportedly be evacuated from Gaza to Ireland under a new proposal.

According to The Irish Sun, the Cabinet has approved plans to bring the children to Ireland for medical treatment.

Around 30 children will be treated for a range of issues in Ireland before the end of the year.

However, it is understood that orthopaedic won’t be included in the treatments due to the current surgery waiting lists in Ireland.

Children with cancer and haemodialysis will also be offered treatment as part of the proposal.

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly presented the plan to Cabinet this morning.

He sought approval after working with the Red Cross, the Department of Foreign Affairs and multiple doctors for months.

According to reports, an advanced medical team has been cleared to travel from Ireland to Palestine.

They will assess the children before they bring them back to Ireland.

The children will then be flown into Ireland by the European Union.

When they arrive in Ireland, they will be transported to hospital by the ambulance service as well as State bodies.

A carer will accompany each child when they are in Ireland. The patients will also stay in homes owned by healthcare workers who have been involved in the plan.

The plan will go forward once it is approved by Cabinet.

The news comes after Taoiseach Simon Harris called for more to be done to help the people of Palestine.

He told reporters in August: “I believe when we look back at this period of time, it will be a time of dark shame for the world because there are levers that could be pulled at the European level that have not yet been pulled.”
