Some interesting crime-related figures were released by the Central Statistics Office today.

The number of murders fell last year to 30 from 52 in 2014, almost half the number of homicides. Aggravated burglaries were also shown to have dropped by 14%, although there were still 26,246 recorded burglaries in total in 2015.

Sadly, the number of sexual offences rose by 15% with the number of recorded rapes increasing to 536 from 2014’s 476 total.

There has been a notable increase in blackmail and extortion offences, rising by a whopping 150% to 52 recorded incidences.

Drugs offences are also on the decrease with the majority of recorded offences being possession of drugs for personal use.

Kidnappings have also risen by a rather large 25%.
