Ryan Tubridy has revealed that he will be busy on the night of the Late Late Toy Show this year, the first in 14 years he won’t be hosting the show.

Taking to Instagram, the ex-RTÉ presenter told his fans that he will be turning on the Christmas lights in his “favourite town” of Clifton, Galway.

He wrote in his post: “Big job to do in a few weeks’ time as the good people of Clifden, Co. Galway have invited me to switch on their Christmas lights on Friday, November 24th at 6 pm.

“I’m honoured! Any excuse to get back to my favourite town? Up to the attic now to dig out a jumper,” he said.

This year will be the first Toy Show for new presenter Patrick Kielty since taking over the role. The show was hosted by Ryan Tubridy for fourteen editions between 2009 and 2022.

Ahead of his departure in May, Ryan Tubridy had said he would “especially miss the annual chaos of the Toy Show.”

He added: “While millions of viewers got to see the thousands of children who made it onto the live show, I saw lots more hopeful singers, messers, dancers and musicians at auditions throughout the country.

“Suffice to say, I am incredibly positive about and hopeful for the next generation and the contribution they will make to this country.”

There has been much speculation about the former Late Late Show host’s next move, with reports this week that he is expected to announce a new role with a British broadcaster.

According to Extra, the presenter is expected to announce a new deal with Virgin Radio, a station owned by Wireless Group – a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.
