Reduction In Number Of People Claiming Long-Term Social Welfare

There are over 2000 less people signing on the Live Register for social welfare payment according to new figures released by the Central Statistics Office.

An 11.8 per cent annual decrease in the number of long-term claimants signing on has been reported.

There’s also 8.7% less young people on the Live Register than in the last set of figures sent out by the CSO.

The latest overall unemployment figures stand at 8.9% overall throughout the State.

The figures, published earlier this week, put the State’s jobless rate at 8.9 per cent for November.A positive trend is also emerging with an annual decrease in people under 25 signing onto the live register for the fifth year in a row.
