Two separate abductions have occurred in Co. Laois
Gardaí in Co. Laois have launched an investigation following the attempted abductions of two women.
The incidents reportedly took place in the Mountmellick area of Co Laois.
Both abductions took place on separate dates but within the same location.
Gardaí confirmed that the first abduction happened on April 26th.
The second then took place on May 11th.
Both women were approached by a suspicious male.
A man was swiftly arrested following the incidents.
A Garda spokesperson told The Independent that he has since been charged.
They said a male in his 40s had been charged with a “specific criminal matter and was remanded in custody following a court appearance”.
The source also confirmed that a file would be forwarded to the DPP in relation to further enquiries.
Gardaí shared:
“Gardaí received a report of an alleged incident that is reported to have occurred on Friday evening, April 26, 2024 in Mountmellick, Co. Laois.
“A male in his 40s has since been arrested in relation to this incident. He was charged contrary to the Section 23 of the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023 and appeared before Portlaoise District Court yesterday morning, Monday May 13, 2024.
“As this matter is currently before the courts, An Garda Síochána is not in a position to comment further at this time.”
They did not confirm if the male in his 40s was arrested in connection with the second incident but stressed that they’re investigating the alleged abduction.
They stressed that the safety of the community is their priority.
