Only In Ireland: You’ll Never Guess What Happened During Bonnie Tyler’s EP Set

You couldn't make it up...

Her

For those of you who have been living under a rock/haven’t been online for the last two days, Electric Picnic is well underway in Stradbally, Co.Laois.

A highlight of the Irish festival calendar, headliners include Kelis, Outkast, Foals and Portishead.

Electric Ireland paid homage to the 80s with power ballad queen Bonnie Tyler but what happened during her set warranted an inclusion in Alanis Morrisette’s hit track Ironic.

Bonnie took to the stage one hour after scheduled, ‘what a diva’ we hear you say, however the 63-year-old put on an ‘electrifying’ performance.

The Total Eclipse of the Heart star was only into her second song when the power went inside the Electric Ireland tent. Yes, you read that correctly, the POWER WENT in the ELECTRIC IRELAND tent.

Our Her.ie girl Grace chatted to freelance photographer Tara Thomas, who managed to witness what will no doubt be the most ironic moment of the festival.

“Bonnie arrived one hour late but that didn’t damage the crowd”, she said. It was wedged with kids, not folk in the 30s and 40s like I’d predicted”.

Tara chatted briefly with Bonnie’s husband backstage who admitted that the star could not believe the crowd that had turned out to see her perform.

Electric Ireland made sure to keep 80s fans happy by blasting classics from Cher and the likes. The rumour mill has it that the power lines inside the Electric Ireland tent were cut which sparked the shortage.

Either way, Electric Ireland, we salute you. *Sings Bonnie Tyler ‘It’s A Heartache’ into brush.

Stay tuned for an update of all EP goings on tomorrow with our festival review.
