Meet Kaitlyn Juvik.
The high-school student went to school without a bra recently and was reprimanded by Principal Steve Thennis for making others “uncomfortable”.
According to MTN News, and KRTV, Kaitlyn was told she had broken the school’s dress code and she was asked to “cover up and put a bra on”.
Kaitlyn, who said she wore stickers on the day in question covering her nipples so they wouldn’t be noticeable, often goes without a bra because she finds it more comfortable.
After she was pulled up by school authorities, the news outlet reports that she posted a status to her Facebook page which read:
“If anyone is curious, this is the shirt (pictured below) I was wearing when I was called out. Not see through, not inappropriate and you definitely cannot tell I’m not wearing a bra unless you’re looking VERY hard”.
“I was most definitely not wearing anything that was against the dress code”.
Her status received quite the reaction and her fellow students were in agreement that the reaction from Helena High School in Montana was too harsh.
This led to the establishment of Facebook page No Bra, No Problem and put plans in motion for a braless protest where a number of students joined Kaitlyn, going without bras for one day.
Speaking afterwards, she said:
“As long as nothing is showing and you’re covered up, girls should not have to wear a bra.
“The fact that I was told it makes people uncomfortable offended me because it’s my body.
“It is my natural body and I’m not sure why that is uncomfortable to somebody”.
