“Unexpected voice in bagging area.”
Turns out giving everyone’s most hated machine a festive makeover doesn’t make anyone like it better.
The self-service machine has made many enemies since it was introduced almost ten years ago and started shouting about unexpected items.
Well now, in an effort to make the self-service experience more pleasant, the supermarket has called upon the cheery talents of Santa, who is now hosting your shopping experience.
But, it turns out, people don’t like festive cheer when they’re stressed.
In fact, people have been resoundingly Grinchy about it.

Tesco self service now has a voice recording of Santa yelling “Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!” when you take your items. I don’t need this.

I’ve had to stop going to Tesco because the self-service machines keep yelling “MERRY CHRISTMAS!” at me and it sounds a bit threatening.
