Diana Beard has quit the current series of The Great British Bake Off due to ill health.
The episode due to air next Wednesday, September 3rd, is set to open with the news that Diana has exited the show, to the sadness of the remaining contestants.
Diana’s departure comes in the aftermath of last night’s “Baked Alaska gate”, where she faced major criticism for removing Iain Watters’s ice-cream from the freezer. Watters was eliminated after failing to show a third bake last night, leaving many viewers irate. Several went so far as to accuse Diana of sabotage.
Earlier today The BBC were forced to comment on complaints, and stated: “Due to the extreme temperature in the tent that day, many of the bakers struggled to get their ice cream to set as seen in the episode.”
“Diana removing Iain’s ice cream from the freezer for less than a minute was in no way responsible for Iain’s departure.”
Now, they have confirmed that Diana will not feature in the remaining episodes of this season.
“Diana will not appear in the rest of the series, as she fell ill ahead of filming episode five earlier this year,” confirmed the BBC.
