Her.ie Share Their Favourite Christmas Memories…

It’s the most wonderful time of the year...

Her

Whether you’re a festive fanatic or more Scrooge at heart, you can’t deny there’s always one or two moments that spring to mind when you think of Christmas.

Maybe it was the year you got a bike, or the night your boyfriend became part of the family tradition, but one way or another, we cherish this time of year with some pretty fond memories… (ok they can be pretty cringey too…)

Here the ladies of Her.ie share some reasons why this time of year will always have a touch of sparkle for them…

Liz: My favourite Christmas memory has to be when I shared the day with my brother and Granny. After a few glasses of wine at dinner, we stuck on The Commitments and, of course, a sing-along followed (for anyone who knows me, this really isn’t shocking). Ally who can’t sing a tune but thinks he’s the new Bublé, was letting rip when Granny who was admittedly hard of hearing interrupted:

“Well, Alan you have a BEAUTIFUL voice, it’s just gorgeous!”

She couldn’t understand why we thought this was hilarious. She was confusing him with our Grand-Uncle who was a tenor. Ally, the most enthusiastic singer but more a terror than a terror, thought this was his Christmas miracle. It might have been a case of too much Christmas wine, but that’s what it’s all about!

Cathy: I’m pretty close to my family and have been on the festive countdown for a while now. From Mam’s A-MAZ-ING Christmas dinner to Dad having us in stitches with funny stories and epic dance moves. It’s difficult to pick one year that stands out for each one is really special. Childhood Christmases in Clare, mad nights working in a pub during my college days and spending time with my grannies who sadly aren’t with us anymore. Although every moment is special on Christmas Day, nothing quite beats sitting down to dinner. Everyone is in great form and there are plenty of laughs and chatter around the table. I really can’t wait for this year’s celebrations!

Ellen: My best Christmas ever was when Santa brought me my first CD player, I must have been about eight years old and my sister and I were absolutely buzzing. We also got a double album of house music called Big Tunes 2000 and it was wall to wall bangers for months, until the discs were irreversibly scratched.

Rebecca: Mine’s not so much a memory but rather a story that I’ve been told by my family about a younger version of myself. When I was about five years old, sitting at the table eating Christmas dinner surrounded by eight of my relatives, I told everyone to “shut up and eat their bloody dinner”. Don’t ask me (or my parents) where I picked the word up because I (and they) haven’t got a notion!

Cassie: Santa once gave me 50 quid in my stocking. It’s my favourite memory purely because of the lols it provides me with now. At the time, meh. Luckily Santa has seriously upped his game and been much better to me in recent years.

Laura: My favourite Christmas memory was when I got a letter from Mrs Clause. I was 6 years old and had asked Santa for a Baby Born doll. When Santa couldn’t get that doll I got a handwritten note from Mrs Clause explaining that I would be getting a different one. I thought I was one of the luckiest children in the world.
