Celebration time!
It’s official – you’re halfway there (woohoo!). You’re at the top of the hill and it’s downhill from here on out. Well done, you. That is a real achievement and something you should be proud of.
So proud that we think you should treat yourself to a little something nice.
That’s right. We’re giving you full permission to go out and reward yourself for your hard work. Go wild! (Well, to a degree.) You’ve been working so hard over the past five weeks, fighting against those cravings and making the effort to experience new things. Now it’s time for some positive reinforcement.
It’s not just us saying that either. Addiction expert and life coach, Raul Aparici, is also telling you to get out there and buy yourself something nice (and if he says it, sure, you have to!).
He reminds everyone that, while they might be feeling different in loads of ways and experiencing improvements in various aspects of living, there’s one particular improvement that is very real and very measurable – money (our favourite!).
Everyone knows smoking is EXPENSIVE. Smokers are frequently dishing out between €8-15 per box of cigarettes. Not you though, not anymore. Over the past five weeks you’ve most likely saved up quite a hefty sum, maybe even more than you might have realised. Raul suggests adding up all the money you’ve saved so far.
“Celebrate your success by treating yourself to something nice with some of this cash. You have worked really hard for this money, spend it wisely.
“What kind of rewards are we talking about? Think body positive, healthy, empowering. Maybe it’s time for a new hairstyle or colour, or a spa day with a massage to sooth your aches and pains. Or perhaps you can stretch to a weekend away?
“Think creatively about what would feel like a nice reward; have you ever thought about having guitar lessons? Or learning a new language? Having a personal shopper take you around a store? The key is that the reward must mean something to you personally and it feels both as a pat on the back and an encouragement to be a better, more rounded human being.
“If you can’t think of anything, treat a loved one! It feels really nice to give to others, kindness is its own reward.
“The main focus here is to keep going, stay focused and not drop the ball.”
That’s some pretty good advice.
Take your time thinking about what you want to do. There’s no rush and no pressure. This doesn’t have to be a life-changing act, as long as it means something to you. This reward is for you and you alone (unless you want to share it!) – this is your journey, your struggle, and your treat.
There’s still a road ahead to get through but this is a big marker and a time to celebrate how far you’ve come. Enjoy it.
