We all had the best of intentions at the beginning of the year to start 2015 ‘being good’ and if we’re honest, for the majority of us our good intentions failed miserably.
It’s the beginning of a new week and so it is time to get back on the wagon…
People often make the mistake in thinking that swapping junk food for lots of fruit is the correct way to detox one’s body. Fruit is high in natural sugars, and although the positives outweigh the negatives, consuming too much fruit isn’t exactly good for you… or your bowels.
They may not serve as the most glamorous of the detox foods but the grapefruit pack a powerful punch.
Grapefruit gets your liver fired up and ready for action. Ranked as one of the highest antioxidant fruits, grapefruit is packed with fibre and nutrients making it the perfect detox juice.
Grapefruit makes the liver burn up fat and is a great aid for those of us who want to shed a few pounds. Research shows that consuming half of a grapefruit before meals was associated with significant weight loss.
The study also showed that the properties found in grapefruit had a beneficial effect on blood sugar and insulin levels in the body.
It is the season of flus and colds, and grapefruit is known for its high levels in Vitamin C and ability to give the old immune system a much needed boost.
Grapefruit is also great for helping rebalance the skin. So if you’ve managed to burn the candle at both ends this weekend, you should definitely consider kickstarting you short week a work with some fresh grapefruit juice.
Add a bit of ice, a slice of grapefruit after juicing and you’ve got yourself one very healthy cocktail, which is better than no cocktail at all!
We’re off to purchase some immediately…
