We’re all well aware of how often we should be washing our hair so we don’t ruin it, but what about how often we should be washing our bodies?
Even though there’s nothing like a cold shower to wake yourself up in the morning – or a long, hot shower after a particularly awful day at work – apparently having too many of them could be negatively affecting our skin.
And more specifically, our microbes.
So what part do our microbes play in all of this and what even are they?
Well, studies have shown that showering every day with soap and water gets rid of all the good stuff on our skin that’s keeping us healthy and literally alive.
Microbes keep our immune systems ticking over, our hearts functioning properly, and may even stop our faces from breaking out in acne.
And supposedly, showering every day gets rid of them.
Shame.
We find that last one a little hard to stomach because having a dirty face is surely a more likely reason for developing spots.
Maybe we just shouldn’t be scrubbing too hard.
There is no official guidance on exactly how often we should be showering, but we’re going to go ahead and say that if you feel a bit rotten, just hop in.
You probably need it.
