The annual Irish Film and Television Awards took place earlier in the year and it wasn’t without its hitches.

The show, which was co-hosted by Laura Whitmore and Simon Delaney, received scathing reviews after a series of technical difficulties and the production running 25 minutes over its schedule.

During its airing, guests could be heard talking at tables while Delaney and Whitmore were presenting, resulting in the event being branded by many as a ‘shambles’.

For the first time in 11 years the state broadcaster will not be filming the awards ceremony.

RTÉ One Channel Controller, Adrian Lynch, confirmed the news to the Irish Independent.

“After 11 years of broadcasting an awards programme, we believe that this is a good point in time to pause and reassess how best RTÉ can address the area of awards in the future,” he said.

RTÉ will be taking the time to engage in active consultation with the various stakeholders within Ireland’s film and television industry, including the Irish Film Board and IFTA, to inform us on how best to decide on a way forward,” he continued.

“We remain absolutely committed to supporting film and television production in Ireland, and we continue to do so. One of the ways in which we have done this to date has been through broadcasting an annual film and television awards programme”.

The Sunday Times contacted IFTA organisers who insisted they had no communication from RTÉ regarding their decision.

Homegrown Hollywood stars such a Saoirse Ronan, Colin Farrell and Michael Fassbender attended the event.
