Hollywood stars have slammed Sony’s decision to cancel the release of new movie The Interview in the wake of terrorism threats.

A number of actors have blasted the decision stating that it was an “act of cowardice” and “disgraceful.”

The decision was made following a number of hacker threats of violence against anybody who went to see the movie, which focuses on the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.

The film, which stars Seth Rogan and James Franco, was due to be released this month and now actors Steve Carell, Ben Stiller, Rob Lowe and Jimmy Kimmel along with a host of other stars have hit out at the decision to pull the release date.

“Wow. Everyone caved. The hackers won. An utter and complete victory for them. Wow,” tweeted Rob Lowe who also accused Hollywood of “caving in” and stating “Hollywood has done Neville Chamberlain proud today.”

“I think it is disgraceful that these theaters are not showing The Interview,” said producer Judd Apatow. “Will they pull any movie that gets an anonymous threat now?”

Meanwhile Steve Carell stated, “Sad day for creative expression #feareatsthesoul”, while Ben Stiller added, “Really hard to believe this is the response to a threat to freedom of expression here in America.”

Sony have said there are no plans to release it on DVD or other platforms.
