Channing Tatum will play a mermaid in classic film remake

Megan Roantree

We can’t wait to see this!

We’ve seen him play everything from a dancer to a fighter to.. well a dancer who takes his clothes off, but this is one we can’t say we ever expected.

Channing Tatum is set to don a tail for his newest role!

The 1984 classic Splash is being remade by Disney but it will have a very significant difference this time.

For anyone who hasn’t seen the film, you are missing out!

It tells the story of a mermaid (played by Daryl Hannah) who returns to land to find the man (Tom Hanks) who once saved her 20 years beforehand. He is then asked to choose between his life on land or a life under the sea.

The gender roles will be reversed which means that Channing will play the sea creature (presumably a merman) and actress Jillian Bell will take on the role Tom Hanks first played.

Maybe he was hinting towards the news when he posted this picture almost a year ago, or maybe it’s just a coincidence.

Perhaps after the Ghostbusters remake, gender swapping classic movies could become a trend.
