The film, with the working title of Deliver Me from Nowhere, is reportedly going to cast The Bear star Jeremy Allen White as The Boss.
The film will be an adaptation of Warren Zane’s 2023 book ‘Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska’, which centres around the journey to put together the 1982 album.
Deadline reported that White was the first choice for the role and negotiations have already begun with A24 to make the movie.
Filming will reportedly start in June, once White is finished wrapping up the fourth season of hit Disney+ series The Bear, which shot him to the fame.
White has won a Golden Globe, Emmy and SAG award for his role as chef Carmy Berzatto in The Bear and received acclaim for his recent role in wrestling drama The Iron Claw.
Deliver Me from Nowhere will be directed by Scott Cooper, who also directed Crazy Heart and Black Mass.
Cooper’s 2009 country music flick Crazy Heart won Jeff Bridges the Best Actor Oscar for his role as an alcoholic singer-songwriter attempting to turn his life around.
Springsteen himself and his manager Jon Landau are actively involved in the upcoming project, with The Boss having a history of lending songs to movies, like the well-known track ‘Streets of Philadelphia’ for the 1993 Tom Hanks film Philadelphia.
Springsteen recorded ‘Nebraska’, his sixth studio album, with a simple four-track recorder alone in a bedroom he rented in New Jersey, just as he was reaching the cusp of super stardom.
Many consider the album, which explores a number of down-and-out blue collar characters, the musician’s rawest of his distinguished career.
It was released just two years before the legendary ‘Born in the USA’ record with the E Street Band.
This week, it was announced that Springsteen will make history as the first international songwriter to be awarded an Ivors Academy fellowship.
The Boss will become the 27th person to receive the academy’s highest honour during a ceremony in London on May 23.
