It turns out Macklemore and Ryan Lewis share the ‘Same Love’ for Ireland as we do…
In 2011, the duo’s music took them on an amazing journey around the globe. They toured everywhere, however attempting to secure a tour date in Ireland was proving difficult.
Ahead of their gig at Dublin’s Marlay Park next week the lads made this heart-warming, and quite frankly, emotional film about their love for the country and the immense support Irish fans have shown them over the last few years.
After failing to get a promoter to book them, the pair were forced to organise the gig themselves and called in a favour from a friend which resulted in them selling out a 200 capacity in the Twisted Pepper in just minutes.
“We were playing our first time in Europe and for some reason we could not get a show in Ireland,” Macklemore explains.
“We were thought to be unknown and in turn no promoter would book us. Eventually, a friend of a friend convinced a small little venue called The Twisted Pepper to let us perform…”
In the touching clip Macklemore reveals that his upcoming Marley Park show will be his largest gig to date and the momentous occasion will be recorded. As an extra celebration, limited edition specially designed Marlay Park t-shirts will also be available at the concert.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will play at Marlay Park, Dublin on July 10th. Special guests include the incredible Ellie Goulding, Danny Brown, and new hip-hop sensation Angel Haze. For more you can check out Ticketmaster.ie.
Now prepare to shed a few patriotic tears…
