Kicking off awards season in style.
Having been heavily tipped to clean up this season, Saoirse Ronan is most definitely living up to those predictions by wining best actress for Lady Bird at Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York last night.
The 23-year-old was up against major players in the industry such as Margot Robbie for I, Tonya, and Lois Smith for Marjorie Prime.
Dedicating her award to her mother and the director of Lady Bird, Saoirse said this win is for “the two women who mean so much to me.”
This award brings Saoirse that step closer to winning an Oscar, with heavy speculation brewing that she will win best actress for her role in the movie.
The Irish actress has already been nominated for two Oscars in the past for both Atonement and Brooklyn.
Other winners on the night at the awards included Dustin Hoffman, Nicole Kidman and Jason Blum.
It is just over one month until the Golden Globes and PGA Awards commence where Saoirse is likely to receive more accreditation for her outstanding role.
