Pharrell Williams has been forced to apologise after offending fans by wearing an American Indian headdress on the front cover of a magazine.
The Happy singer wore the item on the cover of the July issue of Elle UK and sparked a backlash on Twitter, with fans accusing him of “turning sacred cultural items into fashion props”. The opposition grew as users expressed their offence by using the hashtag #nothappy.
The 41-year-old issued a statement this evening, saying “I respect and honor every kind of race, background and culture. I am genuinely sorry”.
