Typical.
The launch of this season’s Love Island has been “thrown into chaos” after extremely bad weather hit the South African villa, reports have claimed.
The series returns to our screens tonight at 9 pm on Virgin Media Two and while the promo shots look like it’s sunny weather all round, the show is filmed a day or two ahead of time.
According to The UK Sun, strong winds have made it difficult to film the show’s opening scenes as they all arrived in the villa for the first time, and almost completely ruined Maya Jama’s first-ever Love Island entrance.
Thankfully, the scenes of Maya arriving by helicopter were filmed before the weather “caused mayhem”, but the islanders weren’t so lucky.
The islanders this year reportedly got a bit of a shock when they arrived at the villa as they were left shivering around the firepit, as well as the sound and lighting affected by the wind.
A source said: “ITV has big plans for this series to be more epic than ever, and were really excited about Maya’s big arrival on the helicopter so thank God that footage was all in the can before the winds crept up.
“But by the time it came to filming in the evening, it had really kicked up a gear. It caused mayhem. Every department was affected — sound, lighting, cameras, and wardrobe.
“The winds swept over the vast property’s gardens and pool as the crew fought for clear audio for the show’s much anticipated first episode. None of the Islanders expected to be shivering around the fire pit either, but it came into its own.”
Love Island returns tonight at 9 pm on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.
