Gemma Atkinson bravely stood up to the cruel trolls.
After giving birth, the last thing you should need to worry about is the unsolicited opinion of complete strangers.
Unfortunately for Gemma Atkinson, this was the case when trolls took it upon themselves to share their not-so-nice opinions about the former Hollyoaks actress’ appearance in paparazzi pictures.
Just three weeks postpartum, Atkinson, 38, was on the receiving end of mum-shaming after an outing with her own mum to the doctors.
The now mum-of-two already shares daughter Mia with Gorka Marquez, and welcomed their baby boy Thiago towards the end of July.
Taking to Instagram to discuss the nasty comments, she said: “I did look like a bag of rags, to be fair. I didn’t look my best.”
The Hits Radio UK presenter is recovering from a C-section and enlisted the help of her mum to help with pushing the pram, something commenters jumped to conclusions over and labelled her as ‘lazy’ for.
“My mum was pushing the pram, because it’s quite hilly where I live, so downhill I could push him. Uphill, it was a little bit tender and I don’t want to overdo it,” she explained to her followers.
Explaining how it felt to see the comments, she said: “If I had been on my own reading those messages – ‘you used to be fit, you’re proper lazy’ – I would have been like, oh my god. Especially with a three-week-old baby, your hormones are up and down anyway.”
Luckily, in this case, Gemma was able to laugh at the comments with her mum.
However, she urged her followers to check in with people in their lives who have just given birth to make sure they’re doing okay, as she believes there are mum-shamers around every corner.
As the saying goes: If you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
