From the beehive to the bob, the crop to the curl, we count down the most iconic hairstyles ever and the stars who made them popular.

There are certain hairstyles that manage to stick in your mind and continue to be fashionable years after they first appear.

So we decided it was about time we celebrate our favourite iconic hairstyles. And you never know you might just see one of the Her.ie team sporting one of these looks on a street near you very soon…

1. Mia Farrow – This lady is known for many things including an award for her role in Rosemary’s Baby, working as a UNICEF ambassador and being Woody Allen’s muse. But we love her most for making the pixie crop one of the most sought-after hairstyles ever. It is still popular with stars including Michelle Williams and Emma Watson.

2. Farrah Fawcett – In the 70s there was no other hairstyle that got as much praise as the one Charlie’s Angel star Farrah Fawcett was sporting. The feathered look or the ‘flip’ as it is commonly known was perfect for this decade because it was free, fun and fashionable.

3. Jennifer Aniston – The ‘Rachel’ is undoubtedly the most memorable and requested hairstyle of the 90s. Thanks to Friends star Jennifer Aniston the short and layered look was very much the way to go for hair and if you can find me someone who didn’t try it I’ll show you a liar!

4. Cher – While lots of stars were fond of the perm Cher most certainly had one of the biggest we’ve ever laid eyes upon. And to be honest we can’t think of anyone who could have pulled it off better. It might be in his kiss but it’s definitely in her hair!

5. Meg Ryan – Meg Ryan’s layered look had it all. It managed to be messy but perfectly styled, effortless but extremely fashionable, fabulous but laid back. To be honest the look was a bit of an enigma but we completely loved it.

6. Faye Dunaway – The Bonnie and Clyde leading lady made the bob an absolute hairstyle hit. Anyone who was anyone wanted to have Faye Dunaway’s blonde bob. If only we were blonde and had the guts to chop off all of our hair!

7. Amy Winehouse – She was undoubtedly a great songwriter and had one of the most unique voices of this generation but we will also remember Amy Winehouse for her incredible beehive. At times we actually thought it had grown to be taller than us, which isn’t all that difficult. Still, think we’d go for a smaller Audrey Hepburn-esque one.

8. Kate Middleton – One of the many reasons we adore the Duchess of Cambridge is her enviable tresses. She has seriously brought the blow-dry style back into fashion and the bigger you can get your hair the better.

9. Marilyn Monroe – While it helped that she was more curvaceous than a roundabout, Marilyn Monroe’s delectable curls cemented her bombshell status. Testament to her iconic hairstyle, celebrities including Scarlett Johansson and Christina Aguilera have copied her look in recent years.

10. Sinead O’Connor – We couldn’t have gone without at least one Irish woman on our list and only one comes to mind. Sinead O’Connor’s shaved head in her Nothing Compares 2 U video is certainly memorable with Natalie Portman, Demi Moore and Amber Rose all following in her footsteps.

With so many fabulous hairstyles to choose from we’re not sure which one to pick for our next trip to the salon. Which one would you suggest?
