Organic beauty has become one of the most prominent trends in the beauty industry, but what is it exactly? What are the benefits of going green?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you may have noticed a prominent trend in the beauty industry. Ladies, we’re talking about the rise of organic beauty.

Yes, the term ‘organic’ has become something of a buzz word when it comes to the world of beauty. Every week, hundreds of new organic products are unleashed onto the market.

Glossy magazines are continually extolling the virtues of going a little bit greener when it comes to making choices about what products you use and beauty bloggers love showcasing their latest organic splurge.

Even members of the A-list credit organic products for helping them to retain their youthful glow (Jennifer Aniston is a major organic-junkie, don’t ya know!).

So what is organic beauty then and what are some of the main benefits of going green when it comes to your own regime?

Here we attempt to answer any question you may have about making your beauty routine more environmentally friendly.

Right, so what does it mean when a product has the word ‘organic’ on its label?

Basically an organic beauty product is one that is made from completely natural materials. They are usually human-friendly, animal-friendly and they are made with as little impact to the environment as is possible.

The major thing to note about organic beauty products is the fact that they don’t contain any harmful chemicals. Therefore they are generally considered to be better for your skin than more conventional products.

Okay, so they’re better for me, but do they actually work?

The thing about organic products is that while they don’t contain any of the chemicals or ingredients that you find in conventional products, they’re also pretty awesome and you’re likely to experience the same results as you would with non-organic lotions and potions.

Sometimes we tend to forget the fact that nature can seriously pack a punch when it comes to helping us take care of our skin or hair.

Aside from being chemical free, what other benefits do organic products have?

Well, the list is endless. Did you know that organic products are excellent if you suffer from dry skin? This is mainly because not only are they chemical-free, they’re also completely natural which makes them super-gentle on delicate skin.

The best thing about organic beauty products is that they work with our bodies rather than against them.

For example, sometimes when we use a product on our skin it can strip us of some essential nutrients – this can make issues like dryness or oiliness even more pronounced. Because organic products are natural they help your skin to retain all of its usual nutrients and won’t mess up your skin’s natural balance.

Did we mention that there’s also less chance of you having an allergic reaction to an organic product? All-natural generally means that there’s no negative side-effects. Happy days!

Sounds promising! So how can I integrate some more natural products into my daily beauty regime?

Well, first we should stress that organic products aren’t for everyone. You may prefer the results that you get from conventional brands. Therefore, if you’re curious about going a bit greener, we recommend that you start small.

Maybe go to your nearest Lush store or The Body Shop and see what they have on offer. Begin with a shampoo or a gentle facial cleanser and see if you like it. If it’s working well for you, then branch out and try something else.

Organic products can be slightly more expensive than your usual brands, so it’s important to make sure the product is right for you before you splash the cash. Thankfully most organic-focussed stores will have no problem offering you a free sample of a product if you ask.

So if I start using organic products religiously, am I likely to get that healthy celebrity glow?

While we can’t promise that you’ll wake up looking like Jennifer Aniston after a few days of using organic skincare, the products do nourish your skin. While you may not get that healthy glow straightaway, you are likely to notice a marked improvement after a week or two of consistent use.
