Alanna said that there is a “90% chance” she won’t be able to see out of her right eye.

The Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to an assault on a teenage girl in Ballyfermot to come forward.

According to RTÉ, 17-year-old Alanna Quinn Idris was assaulted on the Ballyfermot Road at 9:30pm on Thursday 30 December.

Her mother told the news station that her daughter was hit after she tried to intervene in an argument between the attackers and her friend. The teenager sustained a ruptured eyeball, broken cheek bones and a damaged eye socket.

According to a GoFundMe set up by Alanna’s family, her friend was stabbed in the incident.

In a post on social media, Alanna said that the damage is so bad that there is a 90% chance she won’t be able to see out of her right eye.

No arrests have been made, and Gardaí have urged any witnesses to the assault to come forward. They are also appealing to anyone who may have camera footage or dash cam footage to come forward.

Those with information on the case can contact Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 666 7200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

The GoFundMe that was set up to raise money for Alanna and her friend’s recovery has now raised over €37,000.

The page reads: “Alanna and a friend were brutally attacked in Ballyfermot on Dec 30th. She has life changing injuries and needs a lot of medical attention and time to recover. Her friend was also stabbed while stepping in to defend her and needed medical attention.

“Let’s show their families that Ballyfermot, Dublin and even Ireland as a whole is better than this, and we’re here to support their recovery.”

The act of violence has been condemned by Ballyfermot Cllr. Hazel De Nortúin who described it as “unprecedented”.

Cllr De Nortúin said: “I can see from across the different social media platforms that the whole community has rallied together to condemn such an attack on anybody and I think everyone just wants to extend their well wishes towards Alanna and her family.”
