This Tipperary woman’s song to highlight Ireland’s suicide epidemic is powerful

It is a known fact that Ireland’s mental health system is deeply flawed and that there could be much more resources put in place to protect the mental health of the most vulnerable people.

For some, it is not as easy or financially feasible to talk to a professional, and the chronically under-resourced mental health system may not help them in time.

The national conversation about mental health has centred around individual stories of people’s own experiences, which is powerful, but we also need to change the entire system to ensure people with mental health problems are taken care of properly.

Megan O’Meara is a young woman from Tipperary and has written a song called Please Don’t Go, highlighting the importance of speaking to someone about your feelings if you’re experiencing suicidal thoughts.

It’s powerful and sends a strong message.
