Doctor Susan Carland, an Australian Muslim academic and researcher has come up with a great solution to deal with bullying and threats she receives on Twitter.
Dr. Carland writing in the Sydney Morning Herald, is consistently bombarded with Islamophobic abuse on the social network. She describes her trolls as small minded individuals, relying on unfair and racist stereotypes about Muslim people.

“They have no interest in what I actually think… I realised this quickly after pointless attempts to engage achieved nothing. I am just a blank canvas onto which they can project their own prejudices and fantasies about Muslims.”
Carland tried everything from attempting to engage with the trolls to eventually blocking most of the offenders, until she came up with a brilliant way to fire back by simply being kind.
For every hateful tweet Carland receives, she has been donating $1 to UNICEF, and has raised over $1000 to date. What a way to transform a negative hateful situation into something positive.
@SusanCarland Thanks for your support! You’ve turned hate into something wonderful: education, health care and protection for kids.
