There’s a special offer that lets you stay at TWO Irish castles the summer, and it’s the five-star holiday of our dreams

Leslie Ann Horgan

This is the FABULOUS that we all need right now.

We’d pretty much come to terms with not having a summer holiday this year. But with the Government’s roadmap allowing hotels to reopen, with appropriate distancing measures in place, from July 20 there’s still a chance to get in a summer getaway. And, lawd above, how we need to get AWAY from our own four walls right now.

While it might be a little nerve-wracking getting used to the ‘new normal’ as the country opens back up, we reckon there’s no better place to do it than in a hotel where we usually spend the majority of our time lounging around our rooms anyway. Give us a robe and some room service and we need for nothing else.

Instead of the two weeks abroad you had been planning, how about putting the price of your holiday into one seriously fabulous staycation instead?

Ashford Castle

Two of Ireland’s most luxurious properties, Ashford and Dromoland Castles, have partnered up for a special re-opening treat for their customers that is quite literally five star.

The Legendary Castles Promotion lets you enjoy a stay at both of the historic properties, which are located about an hour-and-a-half’s drive from each other. You can begin in Co Clare at the turreted Dromoland or in Co Mayo in the sprawling grounds of Ashford, then travel to the other property for the second half of your stay.

Staying at either of these five-star hotels falls into the ‘major life event’ category for us – they are actual castles after all –  so to visit both together would really be a holiday to remember.

That’s the kind of positive memory we want to take away from 2020. Plus, by staying in Ireland you’ll be supporting the economy and the many small, local businesses that feed into destination properties such as these castles.

Dromoland Castle

The package costs €1,800 for two nights at Ashford and two nights at Dromoland, €2,550 for three nights at the castles, and €3,200 for four nights at each. It’s steep by any measure, but if you can afford it, it’s worth it to make your only holiday of the year and uber luxurious experience.

Prices are based on two people sharing across consecutive dates at the two hotels, and include full Irish breakfast. Bookings have to be made between today, June 1, 2020, and July 4, and the package is valid for breaks taken between July 20 and October 31 2020. And if you book in the first two weeks, which you can do through either the Ashford Castle or Dromoland Castle websites, there’s also a complimentary room upgrade included.
