Work it!
Talented actress Jamie Brewer made New York Fashion Week history yesterday, becoming the very first model with Down Syndrome to walk the hallowed runways.
The star, best known for her work on three seasons of hit US show American Horror Story strutted her stuff for designer Carrie Hammer’s show.
Brewer was approached by Hammer as part of the designer’s Role Models Not Runway Models campaign, by which she recruits inspiring women from all walks of life to showcase her work on fashion’s grandest stage.
Speaking to USA TODAY, Hammer said: “We feature incredible influential women on the runaway. CEOs, executives, activist, actresses, anyone who is the top of the field, top of their game.”
“Jamie is an absolute star.”

All models featured in the show wore a design specially created for them, so Hammer took inspiration from Brewer’s role as a witch in one season of American Horror Story, dressing her in a black A-line dress. She said of the design: “Jamie has this beautiful figure with a small waist. A-lines really compliment that.”
Brewer kept fans up to speed via her Twitter account as she got ready for the show.
