Following the conviction of Oscar Pistorius this morning, where Judge Thokozile Masipa found the athlete guilty of culpable homicide (manslaughter), the 27-year-old has been granted bail.

After listening to the arguments by the prosecution and defence about bail, the judge saw no reason why bail could not be continued.

“I grant the application to extend the bail of the accused,” she stated before agreeing with the proposal for the sentencing hearing to begin on October 13th.

The maximum sentence for culpable homicide is 15 years.

Pistorius was also convicted of one firearm charge. The Paralympic athlete was acquitted of two murder charges and two further firearm charges.
