There are countless reasons why we shouldn’t use our phone while driving – the most obvious being that it’s extremely dangerous and could lead to us harming ourselves, or others.

And yet, so many of us still admit to using electronic devices while behind the wheel.

A new study commissioned by Aviva Insurance has shown that an incredible 84 percent of Irish people admit to using some kind of device while they’re driving.

45 percent have also said that they make calls without using loudspeaker features.

This is considerably higher than the 20 percent of people in the UK who admit to making a phone call while behind the wheel.

In total, 187 people lost their lives in road accidents in Ireland in 2016.

According to data released by An Garda Síochana, the four most common factors that lead to road deaths are speeding, drink driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and using a mobile phone.

Aviva’s study also found that over a quarter of Irish people admit to texting while driving, with 15 percent either checking or posting to social media as they travel.
