This is heartbreaking
An Irish woman has passed away after travelling to Turkey to undergo alleged weight loss surgery.
According to many reports, the woman was a nurse and a mother-of-three and died suddenly on Thursday, November 30th.
The exact cause of her death has yet to be confirmed. The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of this case and is prepared to provide any consular assistance needed.
At least three Irish women have died following bariatric surgery in Turkey this year alone.
It’s well-known that many travel to the Middle-Eastern country to avail of cheaper cosmetic procedures; from hair transplants, to veneers, and BBL (Brazilian Bum Lift) surgery.
The aforementioned are just some of the preferred procedures to have done abroad due to the level of savings and speedy availability, compared to having the procedure done in Ireland.
As these surgeries have become more popular in recent years, the Department of Foreign Affairs previously issued advice to the Irish public.
They ask that all patients see their doctor for advice before availing of any procedures overseas.
