The Fodder Aid Scheme is now in place.

Over Christmas, Storm Frank wreaked havoc around Ireland and now a compensation scheme for farmers affected has been established.

According to The Irish Mirror, the Fodder Aid Scheme has allocated up to two million euros to assist farmers who suffered fodder loss during the floods.

The compensation scheme relates to the loss of straw, hay, silage and other materials which are not available to claim under insurance.

Farmers who wish to apply for compensation will be able to get forms from the Department of Agriculture’s local offices, their website and Teagasc offices.

The deadline for application is January 22 and there is a possibility that a second fund may become available to help farmers whose incomes have been severely damaged because of the floods.
