There has been a lot of talk about ALS in recent days, due in part to the #ALSIceBucketChallenge that is sweeping the internet.

A YouTube user by the name of zb0y2855 who lost his mother to ALS, posted a video where he describes what life was like for his mother living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

“I lost my mom to ALS and I thought instead of doing the ice bucket challenge, I’d talk a little bit about what it’s like to have ALS and to go through that,” the man said in a video posted online on Sunday.

“I just wanted everyone who’s doing the [challenge] to know what you’re doing it for and what this disease really is like.”

The man’s words are incredibly moving and the devastation of this progressive neurodegenerative disease is made all the more clear.

Over $15 billion has been raised thus far for the ALS Association, thanks to the #ALSIceBucketChallenge.

Many celebrities and well-known faces have taken part including Cara Delevingne, Ben Affleck, Bill Gates, Taylor Swift, Eva Longoria and Justin Bieber to name but a few.
