Finally, some good news: Twin lemurs have been born in Tayto Park

Jade Hayden

It’s not a conspiracy – it’s just a couple of lemurs.

There are no zoos open at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that the animals in there have gone into isolation.

Rather, they’ve been continuing on as normal – snacking on treats, playing amongst themselves, and naturally, having babies.

One such animal who has recently given birth to a pair of adorable twins is Diana the lemur.

Currently residing at Tayto Park, Diana is the third lemur mam to have given birth in the zoo this month, after Charlie and Dolly welcomed their own baby lemurs a few weeks back.

She is the first to welcome a pair of twins though, so fair play to her.

“We’re delighted to welcome our latest lemur arrivals to the Tayto Park zoo,” said zoo and park manager Lee Donohoe.

“Both the new arrivals and their mums are doing very well and we’re already seeing some of their cheeky, playful traits!

“The birth of any species at the park is always exciting but even more so when they have such conservation importance.”

According to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), ring-tailed lemurs are considered one the world’s most endangered group of mammals.

The gender of the new lemur twins is currently unknown as baby lemurs can’t be disturbed at this early bonding stage.

Despite this, Tayto Park are opening up name suggestions to the public, while also offering the chance to win a family pass to their theme park and zoo.

For use after the coronavirus pandemic, obviously.

Suggestions are currently being taken over on the Tayto Park Facebook or Instagram pages.
